Work to repair three landslip sites will start next week on Moss Vale Road at
Cambewarra Mountain.

The repairs are funded by the Albanese and Minns Governments through joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Transport for NSW has engaged specialist contractors to carry out the slope stabilisation work from Monday 23 February between Green Valley Road and Cambewarra Lookout Road.

Moss Vale Road is a significant link between the South Coast and the Southern Highlands, while also supporting local rural, resident and tourist access to Kangaroo Valley and Moss Vale townships.

Since 2022 a total of 39 landslip sites have been repaired on Moss Vale Road, with a further 11 sites to be repaired.

The landslip damage was caused by a series of unprecedented natural disaster events that brought record-breaking rainfall - up to six times the average rainfall totals, in some cases.

This latest work is expected to take around 12 weeks to complete, weather permitting, and will involve clearing debris and vegetation, drilling long steel rods - known as soil nails - into the slope, applying heavy-duty mesh or spraying concrete - known as shotcrete - and improving drainage.

Motorists using Moss Vale Road will experience short delays while work is carried out Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm, with changed traffic conditions in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Traffic control, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place and motorists are advised to allow an additional five minutes’ travel time.

During most of this work, lane closures will only be in place during work hours, however for around three weeks from mid-April, a lane closure will be in place at all times while work is carried out at a site near Beau Cottage while the roadside safety barrier is removed to facilitate repairs in the area.

Later in March 2026, Transport will carry out drainage maintenance at Barrengarry and Cambewarra mountains which will require overnight closures of Moss Vale Road.

More information will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.

Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips said the Albanese Government was working with the NSW Government to fund vital recovery works on Moss Vale Road.

"It's so important to keeping this important connection between the South Coast and the Southern Highlands safe and reliable," she said.

“Through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, we are helping communities recover from the 2022 disaster events and strengthening infrastructure for the future.”

State Member for Kiama, Katelin McInerney, said the Minns Labor Government was continuing essential landslip repairs on Moss Vale Road to "improve safety and reliability for locals, businesses and visitors".

“These works are part of our long-term recovery effort following severe weather events and will help make this critical route more resilient,” she added.
