LABOR TO SIGNIFICANTLY BOOST MOBILE
COVERAGE AND NBN SPEEDS IN GILMORE

Reliable, quality, high speed internet is not a luxury or a nice-to-have — it’s essential 21st century economic infrastructure.

That’s why an Albanese Labor Government will expand mobile coverage and upgrade the NBN, benefiting residents and businesses in the electorate of Gilmore.

Labor will invest $6.5 million to address black spots, and our NBN plan will expand full fibre access an estimated 45,000 homes and businesses across Gilmore.

This transformational plan will see Labor invest:

  • $3.5 million to address mobile black spots along the Princes highway, particularly from Batemans Bay to Ulladulla which is notorious for poor reception with residents and commuters.
  • A further $3 million to improve mobile coverage in communities with severe coverage issues like Jamberoo, Lilli Pilli, Worrigee and Kangaroo Valley.
  • Expanding full-fibre NBN access to an estimated 45,000 homes and businesses in Gilmore currently stranded on copper wiring.
  • Fibre to the Premises technology can deliver speeds up to fourteen times faster than copper, with far fewer dropouts, and more reliable connectivity.
Sanctuary Point, Ulladulla, Sussex Inlet, Shoalhaven Heads, Vincentia, Gerringong, Culburra Beach, Worrigee, Mollymook Beach, Batehaven, North Nowra, Broulee, St Georges Basin, Batemans Bay, Berry, Callala Bay, Tuross Head, Surf Beach, Catalina, Callala Beach, Huskisson, Burrill Lake, Long Beach, Milton, Mollymook, Sunshine Bay, Narrawallee, Surfside, Basin View, Moruya, Nowra, Malua Bay, Berrara, Denhams Beach, Erowal Bay, Kings Point, Malua Bay, Old Erowal Bay.

This is part of an Albanese Labor Government’s broader plan to expand full-fibre NBN access to a further 1.5 million premises, boost fixed-wireless speeds, and increase satellite data allowances.

Under Labor’s plan, we expect nearly 7 in 8 homes in the copper NBN footprint to have full-fibre access by late 2025, with nearly half getting access by late 2023.

Quotes attributable to Fiona Phillips, Member for Gilmore:

"Working and learning from home is the new normal, and the 2019-20 bushfires made it very clear that quality mobile coverage and high-speed internet is critical for our communities during disasters.”

“I have been working with people across the South Coast through our mobile blackspot survey and with Telstra to improve mobile coverage across the electorate, including the construction of the new Clyde Mountain Mobile Tower, improved battery backup at mobile phone towers and adding my support to Telstra’s submission to the federal government to fix blackspots along the Princes Highway.”

“I’ve also been calling for more Fibre to the Premise so that households and business can get the high-speed internet they deserve.”

"Our plan to boost mobile coverage and internet speeds is critical to a better future right here on the South Coast.”
