LABOR TO IMPROVE GILMORE SCHOOLS’ OUTDOOR FACILITIES

An Albanese Labor Government will invest in outdoor learning capacity for schools in Gilmore, helping ensure that local children have the best opportunity for a quality education.

Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP, announced Labor would invest $148,373 in Havenlee School for outdoor learning area upgrades, including a covered outdoor learning area. Labor will also invest $300,000 in Moruya High School for covered outdoor learning areas.

This follows on from previous commitments announced for Bomaderry High School and Ulladulla High School. Outdoor all-weather areas are crucial to the health and wellbeing of students, to ensure they can still gather and play safely outdoors.

Students, teachers and P&Cs across the South Coast have suffered through bushfires, floods and the pandemic over the past three years. Labor will always invest in local schools to help students grown and learn in the best environment.

“I’ve always been a fan of public education and am proud to be investing in our local public schools.

“Growing up on a local family dairy farm, I went to Terara Public School and I was one of around six students to go on to Nowra High School. “Local children need outdoor spaces to play and learn, especially with the
increased rain and storms we have had this year.

“I’m really pleased that Labor will help improve infrastructure in our local schools, so students have the best possible environment for their

education.”

Quotes attributable to Tanya Plibersek, Shadow Minister for
Education:

“Labor believes every Australian child deserves the best start in life, including a great school education.

“The past two years have been hard for all Australians. But our kids have suffered a unique loss. Remote learning, isolation from friends, missed events, have turned what should be some of the best years of their lives into a bit of a nightmare.

“Investing in school upgrades like these ensure our schools are equipped

to provide kids the chance to participate in activities and events that are crucial to their development and wellbeing.”
