A BIG WIN FOR KIAMA WITH FUNDING

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR A FULL HEADSPACE

After years of the Kiama community waiting, an Albanese Labor Government will fund and deliver a full headspace at Kiama, ensuring young people aged 12-25 will have a, locally dedicated, early intervention mental health service for the first time.

Making the announcement today in Kiama, Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips was joined by Emma McBride, Shadow Assistant Minister for Mental Health.

“Bushfires, floods and the pandemic have really taken their toll on people’s mental health, particularly our young people and acutely around Kiama,” Mrs Phillips said.

“I have been fighting to secure this funding for years and the case for a full-service headspace in Kiama has never been clearer. Local services mean easier, earlier intervention – keeping our young people safer and healthier. This community has the answers, my job is to listen and make things happen,” Mrs Phillips said.

Shadow Assistant Minister, Emma McBride, added, “I thank the local community and Fiona Phillips, the Member for Gilmore for advocating for a headspace in Kiama.”

“Fiona and Labor know the importance of expanding mental health services in Kiama and that’s why we will deliver a full-service headspace. We need to make sure we have the right resources in place so young Australians can get the care they need.”

“The mental health and wellbeing of young Australians is too important and they can’t afford to wait any longer. When Labor was in government, we invested and expanded headspace sites. Labor also expanded the Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centre services that are delivered by headspace,” Ms. McBride said.
